The Nimble Fingers Quilting Group is holding a free Quilt show tomorrow, Monday 12th of April from 10:am to 2:pm at the 1st Congregational Church downtown (310 N 27th). They have some beautiful quilts to show and refreshments are sold. There is also a raffle for a quilt. All proceeds go to worthy causes around Billings and to pay the rent on the church so these ladies can continue to meet and quilt.
The group started meeting over 25 years ago when a small group of friends decided they wanted to learn to quilt. One of them knew about a "Mormon lady" who knew how to quilt and they asked her to teach them how to get started. They thought this Mormon lady would be an older, grandmother type. But instead was a young mother with a bunch of little kids. As this story has been told over the years I'm sure the number of kids has multiplied! But the story goes that she showed up loaded with material and batting and patterns and kids! This "Mormon lady" got them all hooked on quilting. I would love to know who this sister was and if she has any idea that these women are still meeting and still quilting. They are always looking for a few good quilters to join them.
Sorry for the last minute notice but if you can go I know you'll enjoy it.
Sister Chris Jones won the raffle quilt!! Good for her!
